Q:What should I know if I'm beginning Chemotherapy or any type of radiation treatment?

A:
We suggest that you contact us as soon as possible to schedule a personal appointment for your fitting. This gives us the opportunity to measure and match your hair color, and see the style you have been wearing. Our wigs come in a variety of sizes from Ultra Petite to XLarge and Custom.
Although we have a large quantity of wigs in our showroom, we may need to order your specific size or color from our manufacturer. We usually have it shipped to us within 24-48 hours. You are welcome to bring a friend with you for their helpful and honest comments - try on some styles and colors, and perhaps experiment with a new look!

Q: What if I have Alopecia/Trich/E.D. etc or perhaps need a custom?

A:
The appointment usually takes about one hour at which time we make a perfect mould of your head and mark your special requirements. We also show you the variety of caps available and the hair best suited for your lifestyle. We do custom fitting of the cranial prosthesis right in our showroom, or in some cases, it may take approximately 7-10 days to complete. Styling is always included, and you will receive written instructions on how to care for your hairpiece. If you like, we will do the maintenance for you on a regular basis.

Q:Will my insurance pay for my wig purchase?

A:
Most, but not all insurance companies today have coverage for what may be categorized as a wig, cranial prosthesis or hair replacement prosthesis. First, ask your doctor for a prescription for a wig due to your medical condition and keep a copy for your own records. Next, call your insurance company and tell them you have a prescription for a medical wig and ask how much you are covered for.
When you purchase your wig, we will issue you a receipt with our number that identifies us as a Medical wig supplier. Attach the two and send it on as a claim to your insurance company. If you do not have insurance that covers your purchase, submit the prescription and our receipt as a medical expense on your Income Tax.

Q: Should I shave my head if I know I will be losing all or most of my hair?

A:
Most doctors will suggest that it is best to have your hair trimmed to approximately 2 inches all over your head. This will give you a soft covering, and allow your head to become accustomed to the elements. Do not use a razor or hair depilatory cream as you may experience infection, ingrown hairs or may cut a mole or pimple resulting in excessive bleeding. If you wish to just let your hair fall out on its own, that is your choice.

In either case, you may want to wear a sleep cap, or a comfortable indoor hat, not only for a fashionable look, but to keep hair from showing up where you least expect it.

Q: How Should I Care For My Scalp?

A:
Continue to shampoo and condition your scalp, as you would normally do.
You may also use a soft pile washcloth to exfoliate your scalp. This will aid in good circulation and keep your scalp from feeling tight and dry.

After your shower, use a good moisturizing cream, the same as you use on your face. Do not use an excessive amount, and be sure it is absorbed well before putting on your hat or your wig.

Body lotion does not work on your face or scalp, and it will actually make that skin feel tighter and dry. Always remember to use a moisturizer with at least a 25-30 SPF on your face and scalp, particularly in the summer. Your scalp will burn if left exposed to the sun.

Q: Human Hair, Blends or Synthetic?

A:
For those going through chemotherapy treatment, your hair loss usually occurs shortly after your second treatment. Hair growth will begin again once the treatment stops and your hair will grow approximately one quarter  to a half inch per month. You can calculate the total time you will need to wear your wig by taking the length of time you will be receiving treatment, and what length of hair you are comfortable wearing without a cover up. For most, but not all, it is approximately 18 months. Depending on how often, and under what circumstances you wear your wig, a good quality synthetic should last you 12-18 months. Here is some helpful information you may want to consider. Human Hair and Blends can be shaped and styled easier than synthetic. Human Hair and Blends feel and look more natural than synthetic. Blends last longer because of the Human Hair content. Blends and Human Hair will lose color due to the sun, or using over the counter shampoos and conditioners. Human Hair wigs last the longest as you can change the style and freshen up the color if necessary. Synthetic wigs come in a wider variety of colors than Blends and Human Hair wigs. Synthetic wigs usually retain their curl and color. Synthetic wigs and Blends will frizz from heat and perspiration.

Q: Will I lose my wig on a windy day?

A: We highly recommend the Comfy Grip.
It provides peace of mind and if you have previously purchased a wig that just doesn't fit right, you will see how it makes a bad fit better!
